Which places are practical as day trips from Galway without a car?
Galway is the best no-car base in the west. The Cliffs of Moher and the Burren work by Bus Eireann route 350 or by day tour, with Doolin and Lisdoonvarna on the same road. The Aran Islands work by shuttle bus to Rossaveal and the ferry, most simply to Inishmore. Connemara is the third day: tours and buses run to Kylemore Abbey and Clifden, though services thin out outside summer. Cong, the Quiet Man village on the Mayo border, is reachable by bus for a slower day. Check the last bus back before you commit to any of them, because evening returns are limited.
