What pace setting should I choose in the planner for a relaxed trip?
Choose the Slow travel trip type. Each trip type in the planner sets a daily driving cap, and Slow travel is the lowest of the standard types at about 2 hours 30 minutes a day, against about 4 hours for First visit and 5 hours for Road trip. Family sits at about 3 hours. With the lower cap the planner closes the day sooner, so the same stops spread over more days with more overnight bases, and no day becomes a transfer with sights attached. If a route still feels full at that setting, the fix is fewer stops rather than a faster pace.
