What is the best route from Dublin to Cork with a stop at Cashel or Kilkenny?
Take Cashel if the stop must fit inside one driving day. The M8 runs Dublin to Cork in about 2 hours 45 minutes, and the Rock of Cashel stands just off the motorway near Cahir, so the detour costs minutes and the visit about an hour. Kilkenny is the better town and the bigger commitment: it sits off the direct line, at about 1 hour 25 minutes from Dublin, and reaching Cork afterwards means cross-country roads or backtracking. Our Grand Tour solves it by sleeping in Kilkenny and seeing Cashel the next day on the road southwest. One stop, one day: Cashel. A night to spare: Kilkenny.
