How do I reach the Aran Islands, and should I choose Inishmore, Inishmaan or Inisheer?
Aran Island Ferries sail year round from Rossaveal, with a shuttle bus from Galway city timed to meet the boats: about 40 minutes to Inishmore, 50 to Inishmaan and 55 to Inisheer. Seasonal boats also run from Doolin, and Aer Arann Islands flies to all three from Connemara Airport at Inverin in under 10 minutes. Choose Inishmore for a first visit: the biggest island, Dun Aonghasa, bike hire and the most beds. Choose Inishmaan for the quietest day and strong Irish. Choose Inisheer for the shortest crossing and an island you can walk across. Stay overnight if the dates allow.
