Is County Kildare a good choice with young children?
Very, and it is an easy county to do with small children: flat, close together, and under an hour from Dublin at the outside. Lullymore Heritage Park is built for them, with a pet farm, a road train, crazy golf and an indoor play barn for the wet days every Irish holiday seems to collect. At the National Stud, spring foals, wide lawns and the gardens carry children who have no interest in pedigrees, and the whole visit is outdoors at toddler pace. Donadea's lake walk is buggy friendly at under a kilometre. Long drives barely exist here, which parents of small children will count as an attraction in itself.
