When is the Galway International Arts Festival, and how do I choose events?
It takes over Galway for two weeks each July, with the 2027 edition confirmed on the Irish Escapes events page for 12 to 25 July. The programme mixes theatre, music in the Big Top at Fisheries Field, visual art, street spectacle and talks, and the full programme is usually published in May, with some headline music announced earlier. Choose by anchor, not by volume: book one headline show and one theatre production you care about, then fill the gaps with free exhibitions and street events once you are there. Trying to ticket every night leaves no room for the city itself. Book accommodation early, as Galway fills for the full fortnight.
