How do I plan for Galway Races, and what should I book first?
Book the bed before anything else. Race week, 26 July to 1 August in 2027, is Galway's busiest of the year: the Summer Festival runs seven days at Ballybrit, the Galway Plate on the Wednesday and the Galway Hurdle on the Thursday are the headline days, and the city fills to the doors. The order that works: accommodation first, ideally the previous autumn for the best placed rooms; race tickets next, with Ladies' Day on the Thursday selling hardest; then restaurant tables for the evenings you care about. Base in the city rather than driving in. Buses run to the course, the traffic crawls, and the night after racing is half the festival.
