What festivals and events happen in County Kildare through the year?
The year starts with Brigid: Féile Bhríde fills Kildare town around 1 February, the feast of St Brigid, which is now marked by a public holiday on the first Monday of the month. Spring brings the Punchestown Festival, five days of top National Hunt racing near Naas in late April and the finale of the jumps season. Summer belongs to the Curragh, where the racing season runs from March to October and the Irish Derby in late June is the biggest day in Irish Flat racing. Between the Curragh, Punchestown and Naas racecourse there is a fixture in most months of the year, and the towns fill whenever a big meeting is on: book beds early for Derby week and Punchestown week.
