Can I attend a local agricultural show, regatta or harbour festival without knowing anyone?
Yes. Agricultural shows, regattas and harbour festivals are public events, run to bring people in, and a stranger with a ticket is the normal visitor, not an exception. County agricultural shows charge admission at the gate and fill the day with livestock judging, show jumping, trade stands and food stalls. Sailing regattas and harbour festivals are usually free to watch from the quay, with races, markets and music through the day. Nobody expects you to know a competitor. Say hello at a stand, ask about a breed or a boat, and you will be answered at length. Check the individual organiser for gate prices, parking and the day's programme before you set out.
