What should I do after a minor collision or breakdown in a rental car in Ireland?
Stop, switch on the hazard lights and check for injuries first. If anyone is hurt or the road is blocked, call 112 or 999 for the emergency services. Exchange names, addresses, phone numbers, registration numbers and insurance details with the other driver, take photographs of the damage and the scene, and do not argue about fault at the roadside. Damage with no injuries still needs reporting: to the property owner, or at the nearest Garda station as soon as you can. Then call the rental company on the number in the paperwork and follow its instructions. For a breakdown, pull well off the road, get passengers out on the verge side and call the breakdown number on the rental key fob or agreement.
