What fuel types and electric vehicle charging should I expect on a road trip?
Petrol here means unleaded petrol, sold from the green pump; diesel comes from the black pump, and putting the wrong one in is an expensive morning, so check the label inside the fuel flap before you lift a nozzle. Stations are plentiful in towns and on motorways and thinner in the west and northwest, where Sunday and evening hours can be short. For electric cars, ESB ecars runs the largest public charging network on the island, with more than 1,600 charge points, paid through its app; other networks such as EasyGo and Ionity cover many forecourts. Plan charging around towns and lunch stops rather than counting on a charger at a rural viewpoint.
