What are the most demanding drives for a nervous driver, and what are the alternatives?
Three kinds of road test nervous drivers. High passes with drops and hairpins: the Conor Pass over the Dingle Peninsula and the Healy Pass between Cork and Kerry. Single track routes where you reverse to passing places, including stretches of the Skellig Ring and the Gap of Dunloe road. And the narrow coastal sections of the Ring of Kerry at coach time. The alternatives are not lesser trips: stay on the main N roads between towns, take a coach or small group tour for the Ring and the Slea Head Drive, and use Killarney and Dingle as bases for boat trips and short local drives. Schedule the hard roads for day three, not day one.
