How do I plan fuel, coffee and safe rest stops on long Irish driving days?
Build the stops into the day before you set off, using towns rather than hoping for a service station. Ireland has motorway services on the main motorways, but rural routes rely on towns: the hub towns in our planner, places such as Ennis, Killarney, Westport and Castlebar, are the natural stops, with fuel, coffee and a toilet in one place. Fill the tank in the morning town, because rural stations can close early. On pace, our relaxed trip type caps driving at about four hours a day; within that, a stop every ninety minutes or so keeps a driver honest. A tired driver is the risk on Irish roads, not the distance.
