Where would I hear traditional music in County Kildare on an ordinary weekend?
In the pubs, where it has always lived, though Kildare is a quieter music county than the west. Sessions gather where a few musicians share a town: Naas, Newbridge, Athy and Kildare town all have pubs where a session happens on a Friday or Saturday when the right players are home, and the honest advice is to ask at the bar or at your B&B the day before, because sessions here run on word of mouth more than posters. Local Comhaltas branches keep the teaching and the tunes going across the county, and their pages carry word of the week's music. Race weekends and festivals are the surest bet: when the county fills, the music follows.
