What is there to do in Kildare Town in one day?
Start at St Brigid's Cathedral, on the hill where Brigid founded her monastery in about 480 AD, and climb the round tower if it is open: the view takes in the whole town and the Curragh beyond. Come down to Market Square for coffee, then walk out to St Brigid's Well just south of the town, a quiet pilgrimage spot at a holy well. The afternoon belongs to the Irish National Stud, about two miles south: the guided tour, the foals, the Horse Museum and both gardens fill it easily. Finish back on the square, where the evening is a pub dinner rather than a late night, and the town settles early.
