What is there to do in Bantry in one day?
Start in Wolfe Tone Square by the harbour, where the town's week turns, and watch the Whiddy Island ferry come and go. Walk out to Bantry House and give the morning to the house and its terraced gardens above the bay: the view across to Whiddy Island is the town's portrait of itself. Lunch back in the square. The Bantry Museum, covering the attempted French landing of 1796 and the town's maritime past, takes an hour of the afternoon. If the sailings line up, take the short ferry to Whiddy Island for the last part of the day: quiet roads, a pub, and Bantry spread out across the water on the ride back.
