What is there to do in Ardmore in one day?
Climb the hill first: St Declan's monastic site, with its tall round tower, the cathedral ruins and the carved Ogham stones kept inside them, is the reason Ardmore matters, and morning light puts the sea behind the tower. Come down and take the cliff walk, a marked loop past St Declan's Well and the remains of an early church, with the bay opening below you. Lunch in the village. Then give the afternoon to the beach, a long curve of sand under the monastic hill, and the cafes along it. That is the whole day, honestly filled. Ardmore is small: its day is the hill, the cliffs and the water, in that order.
