What is there to do in Antrim in one day?
Start at Antrim Castle Gardens: the long canal, the parterres and Clotworthy House fill a morning better than the town's size promises. Walk back through the town to the Steeple, the round tower standing in parkland near the centre, a remnant of the town's early monastic site. Lunch in town around Market Square, by the old courthouse. Then go out to Lough Shore Park on Lough Neagh for the marina and the wide water: it is the largest freshwater lake in Ireland, and standing on its shore is the point of the afternoon. Keep the last hour loose. The walks along the Six Mile Water run on from the gardens, and the lough shore at sunset is the town's best hour.
