What is there to do in Adare in one day?

Walk the Main Street first while it is quiet: the thatched cottages built under the Dunraven estate are the postcard, and they read better before traffic builds on the N21. Cross to the village park for Holy Trinity Abbey, the old Trinitarian friary that is now the parish church. Then take the guided tour of Desmond Castle from the heritage centre: it is the only way in, and the castle above the River Maigue earns it. Lunch in one of the cottage restaurants on the main street. Spend the afternoon along the river and by the gates of Adare Manor, whose parkland edges the village. Finish with dinner booked ahead: the village restaurants fill at weekends.
