What is the best one day trip in County Kildare if I am based somewhere else?
Drive or take the train to Kildare town and spend the day within a two mile circle. The Irish National Stud and its two gardens take the morning and more: allow two to three hours and join the guided tour. Walk back into town for lunch on Market Square, then climb the round tower at St Brigid's Cathedral for the Curragh view and call at St Brigid's Well on your way out. It is the county in miniature: horses, Brigid and open plain, all without a long drive. If you have a second day to give the county, Castletown House and Donadea in the north are the other half of the story.
