What is the best itinerary for a movie locations trip in Ireland?
Work west to north in about six days, and let the films set the order. Start in Cong in Mayo for The Quiet Man country, between Lough Mask and Lough Corrib, with the abbey ruins in the village. Drop south through Clare for the Cliffs of Moher, which stood in for the cave scenes in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Give Kerry two days: the Dingle Peninsula for Ryan's Daughter country around Inch Strand, and a boat day to Skellig Michael, Luke Skywalker's refuge in the Star Wars films, in season and weather permitting. Finish in the north at the Dark Hedges near Armoy and Dunluce Castle, both used in Game of Thrones.
