What is the best day trip from Kildare Town?
The Curragh first, five minutes away: walk the open plain in the morning, watch the gallops, and call at the Curragh Military Museum for the camp's long story. For a full day out, Donadea Forest Park is the locals' answer, woodland loops and a lake to the north, with Castletown House at Celbridge a short hop beyond it for the afternoon. South, the old monastic sites at Moone and Castledermot make a quiet heritage run of carved crosses and a round tower. And the simplest day trip of all runs the other way: the train to Dublin Heuston in about half an hour, city sights all day, and back to a quiet square for dinner.
