What is the best day trip from Armagh?
Belfast, 59 kilometres and about 50 minutes by road, and the obvious answer because it is the right one. Run it as the big city day Armagh cannot give you: Titanic Belfast and the shipyard story in the morning, City Hall and the centre after, and the Cathedral Quarter for food. The contrast is the point. Armagh is the ancient ecclesiastical capital, small and quiet, and Belfast is the industrial port city that grew out of the same island's other story. Come back to Armagh for the evening and the quiet. Part of the pleasure of basing in Armagh is leaving the city behind again at the end of the day.
