What is the best base town in County Kildare?
Kildare town, for most visitors. The National Stud, St Brigid's Cathedral and the Curragh are on its doorstep, the fastest trains put Dublin Heuston under half an hour away, and the M7 makes the rest of the county an easy drive. Naas, the county town, has the bigger choice of hotels, restaurants and shops, plus Punchestown on its edge, and suits anyone who wants livelier evenings. Maynooth and Celbridge work well for the north of the county, Castletown House and a handy train into Dublin. Athy, in the south, is the base for the Barrow Way and the Shackleton heritage. Pick by what fills your days, not by size.
