What is the best base town in County Dublin?
Stay in the city: Dublin is the one county where the base question answers itself. The centre holds the sights, the restaurants and the trains, and the coastal villages are day trips on the DART line around the bay. Within the city, the streets around St Stephen's Green and Merrion Square keep you within walking distance of most of it and quieter at night than Temple Bar. Howth or Malahide make sense as a base only for a coast-led trip, a golf trip, or a last night before an early flight, with the airport close on that side of the county.
