What is the best base town in County Donegal?
Two bases, and Donegal is the one county where we insist on it: a single base means hours of backtracking on slow roads every day. In the south, Donegal Town puts Slieve League and the south coast within reach and has the castle and the better evenings. For the north and west, Letterkenny is the practical hub for Glenveagh, Fanad and Inishowen, while Ardara is the pleasanter stay, a tweed and music town beside the west coast sights, if you accept a smaller choice of beds. Buncrana works for an Inishowen-only trip. Pick the pair that matches your days; do not ask one town to cover this county.
