What is the best base town in County Derry?
The city of Derry, without a real argument. Everything in the county radiates from it: the walls and museums are in it, the coast at Castlerock and Portstewart is a short drive or train ride north, the Sperrins and Heaney's Bellaghy are south, and it has the county's hotels, restaurants and evenings. Coleraine is handier for the Antrim coast and the Causeway, but that is Antrim's trip, not Derry's. Sleeping in the city also puts you inside the story the county is known for, which no out-of-town base does. Base in the city, drive out by day.
