What is the best base town in County Cork?
Cork City for a first visit: the market, the restaurants and the harbour towns are all within reach, and evenings are the liveliest in the county. But the honest answer for anyone whose trip is West Cork is to move: sleep in Clonakilty or Bantry for the peninsula days, because driving back to the city each night turns West Cork into a commute. Kinsale is the prettiest single base, twenty minutes from the city, with the harbour and the food, though it is priced and booked like it knows it. Two bases, city then west, is how this county is actually done.
