What are the best things to do in County Galway?
Start in the city: the Latin Quarter lanes around Shop Street and Quay Street, buskers outside the shops, then out along the prom at Salthill to the bay. Then go west into Connemara: the Twelve Bens country, Kylemore Abbey on its lake, and Clifden with the Sky Road above the bay. Give the Aran Islands a full day if the ferries run kindly: Inis Mór and the cliff fort of Dún Aonghasa are the usual first island, and the crossing is part of the day. If time is short, drop the east of the county. The farmland towns are pleasant, but nothing there outranks the city, Connemara or the islands.
