What are the best things to do in County Donegal?
Slieve League first: sea cliffs higher than Moher's and far quieter, in the south-west. Then Glenveagh National Park, a mountain valley with a lakeside castle in the Derryveagh Mountains, and Fanad Lighthouse on its peninsula, open to climb. Malin Head, the top of Ireland, and the Inishowen coast are a day of their own, and Errigal is the climb if you climb one thing. The Gaeltacht west coast, Ardara and the villages between, is where the county's music and tweed live. The honest drop is Donegal town itself: castle, good lunch, an hour well spent, but it is a stop on the way to the county, not the county.
