What are the best things to do in County Carlow?

Carlow is a slow county and rewards being treated as one. See the Brownshill Dolmen first, a Neolithic tomb whose capstone is among the heaviest in Ireland, sitting in a field as if it were ordinary. Walk a stretch of the Barrow Way towpath, Bagenalstown to Borris is the pick, and spend the garden money at Altamont, the county's best loved garden, at its peak for snowdrops in late winter and old trees in autumn. Carlow town adds the castle ruins and the cathedral, and the Blackstairs Mountains give the county its one real hill day, up Mount Leinster. Drop nothing in anger; just do not try to hurry it.
