Is the Causeway Coast a day trip from Belfast or worth an overnight stay?

It works as a day trip and works better as an overnight. The drive is about an hour and fifteen minutes from Belfast to Portrush in our road dataset, so a long day can take in the Giant's Causeway, Dunluce Castle and Carrick-a-Rede and still get back for dinner. What the day trip misses is the coast at its best hours: early light on the columns, the strands at Portrush emptying in the evening, and time for the Glens villages on the coast road south. Sleep in Portrush or Ballycastle, walk the coast path the next morning, and the trip changes from a checklist into a place.
