Is Bangor worth an overnight stay or just a stop?
For most visitors, Bangor works best as a day trip or an evening out from Belfast: the trains are frequent and the ride is short, the city holds the wider choice of beds and restaurants, and Bangor loses little by the arrangement. Stay if the coast itself is the point. A sailing weekend at the marina, the coastal path walked in sections over two days, or a plain family seaside stay of the old kind all sleep happily here, with mornings on the promenade before the day trippers arrive. Golfers bound for the County Down links country also use it as a quiet first night. Decide by what your mornings are for.
