Is Armagh worth an overnight stay or just a stop?
Stay. Armagh is small, but it is not a drive-through: the two cathedrals, the Mall, the museum, the Observatory and Planetarium and Navan Fort fill a day and an evening comfortably, and the city after dark is quiet in a way that suits it. It also works as a base for a couple of nights: Belfast is 50 minutes by road, and the Mournes and the Armagh apple country sit within easy reach, so the city can carry part of a Northern Ireland trip. Who should just stop: anyone already based in Belfast, for whom Armagh is one of the north's best day trips and loses little by it.
