Can I see County Kildare as a day trip from Dublin?
Easily: it is one of the simplest day trips from the capital. Trains from Heuston reach Kildare town in about half an hour on the fastest services, and a free shuttle links the station, Kildare Village, the town and the National Stud, so the Stud, the Japanese Gardens, the cathedral and the round tower fit one car free day. By car, the M7 puts Kildare town under an hour from the city edge. What a day trip cannot do is the whole county: Castletown House and Donadea sit in the north, Lullymore out on the bog, and fitting any of them in means dropping something else. Choose the horse and Brigid day or the big house day, and enjoy it unhurried.
