What should I buy in Kildare Town to bring home?
Bring home the county's craft rather than its labels. In Newbridge, a few minutes away, the Newbridge Silverware visitor centre sells the most portable Kildare work of all: silver plated tableware and jewellery made in the town since 1934, with factory tours and a small museum of style upstairs. In Kildare town itself, Firecastle Lane on the square stocks Irish farmhouse cheeses, preserves and baking for food gifts, and the National Stud's shop carries racing books and prints you will not find in an airport. Kildare Village is for discounted labels rather than souvenirs. One customs note that matters on the flight home: meat and most fresh dairy cannot be brought into the United States, so eat the cheese in Ireland and pack the silver.
