How many hours ahead is Ireland of the United States?
Five hours ahead of the US East Coast for most of the year: when it is midday in New York it is 5pm in Dublin. The gap grows as you go west, six hours to Chicago, seven to Denver and eight to Los Angeles and San Francisco. Both sides move their clocks, but not on the same weekends. America springs forward earlier in March, so for two to three weeks the gap shrinks by an hour, and Ireland falls back a week before America in late October, so for about a week it grows by an hour. Flight times and calls home are easiest planned on the normal gap, and phones and laptops adjust themselves. Ireland keeps Greenwich Mean Time in winter and Irish Standard Time, an hour ahead of it, from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October.
