Where do people eat in Kildare Town: markets, bakeries and good plain cooking?

Start at Firecastle Lane on Market Square, the town's artisan grocery with its own bakery and a café serving breakfast and lunch daily: it is the provisions stop locals point visitors to, and it looks straight across at the cathedral. The Silken Thomas, also on the square, is the big family run inn, with bars and a restaurant and the kind of portions racing people approve of. For plain cooking you are in the right town: carvery lunches, café breakfasts and pub grills are the register here, and nobody goes hungry. For a special dinner, Naas is a short drive away and has the county's deepest bench of restaurants.
