What is a spice bag, a jambon and a chicken fillet roll in Irish food culture?
Three staples of the Irish takeaway and deli counter. A spice bag, born in Dublin Chinese takeaways in the 2010s, is a paper bag of chips, crispy shredded chicken, peppers and onions, all shaken through with a hot, salty spice mix: order one to share, because the portions assume help. A jambon is a small puff pastry parcel of ham and cheese, sold hot from deli counters and eaten at bus stops and desks across the country. A chicken fillet roll is the deli counter's main event: a breaded chicken fillet, plain or spicy, sliced into a crusty roll with butter or mayonnaise, cheese and salad, built to your instructions.
