How do I find a proper farm shop, bakery or local produce market on a road trip?

Plan around the week rather than luck. Most towns hold a farmers or country market on a set day, Saturday above all, and the Bord Bia and local council listings give the day and the square before you travel. Farm shops cluster near the food towns and along main routes, signed from the road; a good one names its farms and producers on the shelf edge, sells its own county's cheese, eggs and meat first, and treats imports as the backing act. Ask your accommodation host where they shop, because that answer is usually the best market research available. A cool bag in the car turns a find into dinner.
