Where do I research ancestors from County Kildare?
With the county's own service. Kildare Genealogy, the Irish Family History Foundation centre for the county, has computerised most of the county's Catholic parish registers, running to 1899, and they are searchable at kildare.rootsireland.ie on a subscription, alongside civil records, gravestone inscriptions and indexes to Griffith's Valuation and the Tithe Applotment books. Start dates vary by parish: Athy baptisms run from 1783, Kildare town from 1815, and some parishes survive only on microfilm or with gaps, so no result does not mean no ancestor. For originals and advice, the service now sits inside Kildare County Archives and Local Studies in Naas; the newspapers and estate papers there fill a name out into a life.
