Where do I research ancestors from County Armagh?
The county centre is Armagh Ancestry, the genealogy service run with Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council as part of the Irish Family History Foundation: its Catholic, Church of Ireland and Presbyterian registers, civil transcripts and gravestone inscriptions are searchable on RootsIreland. Its most useful extra is the Church of Ireland confirmation lists from the 1820s, thousands of names that stand in where baptism registers were lost. Originals and copies of Armagh records also sit at the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland in Belfast, and Armagh County Museum and the Cardinal O Fiaich Library in the city hold local collections. Certificates come from the General Register Office of Northern Ireland.
