Where do I find Irish birth, marriage and death records, and which years are online free?
At IrishGenealogy.ie, the State's own free site, where the civil registers are indexed with images of the register pages themselves. The free online coverage runs: births 1864 to 1925, marriages 1845 to 1950, deaths 1871 to 1975. Marriages start in 1845 for non-Catholic marriages; Catholic marriages were registered from 1864, and civil registration of births and deaths also began in 1864, so nobody has a civil birth record before that year. Earlier generations come from the parish registers instead. Northern Ireland's records sit separately with the General Register Office of Northern Ireland, where viewing a record costs credits.
