Are accessible hotel rooms and holiday homes easy to find outside Dublin?
Findable, but thinner on the ground, and the word accessible covers a wide range. Larger hotels in Galway, Cork, Killarney and other big towns usually hold a small number of accessible rooms with step free bathrooms, and some self catering properties are built or adapted to that standard. Rural bed and breakfast houses in older buildings are the hard end: a ground floor room may still mean a step at the door and a standard bathroom. Fáilte Ireland approved properties publish their facilities, but the safe method is direct. Ask for the bathroom layout, door widths, shower type and parking in writing, and ask for photographs. Book early, because accessible rooms are few and they sell before standard rooms in festival weeks.
