What Irish heritage sites can I visit in Boston?

Walk the Irish Heritage Trail. Created in 1994 by the Boston Irish Tourism Association, its downtown route covers 20 landmarks in about three miles, from the waterfront through downtown and the Back Bay to Fenway Park, taking in three centuries of Irish Boston. The stop most people remember is the Boston Irish Famine Memorial at Washington and School Streets, where Robert Shure's two statue groups face each other: a starving family in Ireland, and a fed, hopeful family newly arrived in America. The trail also passes the John Boyle O'Reilly memorial, the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Garden and the Boston Public Library. Beyond it, the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum at Columbia Point covers the most famous Irish American family of all. Allow half a day for the trail alone.
