How do I bring my dog or cat when moving to Ireland?
From the United States, which is a listed country, there is no quarantine and no rabies blood test, but the order of steps matters. The microchip goes in before the rabies vaccination, the vaccination at twelve weeks or older, and you wait at least 21 days after a first vaccination before travel. Your vet completes an EU animal health certificate and an official vet, in the US system the USDA route, endorses it within ten days of arrival. Dogs, not cats, need a tapeworm treatment recorded between 24 and 120 hours before arrival. Pets may only enter through Dublin, Cork, Shannon and Rosslare ports and airports, with the compliance check booked in advance. Up to five pets travelling with you counts as a non-commercial move.
