St Mary's Cathedral
Limerick's Church of Ireland cathedral, founded in 1168, the city's oldest building still in daily use, with medieval monuments inside.
The Treaty Stone
The stone on the west bank of the Shannon, by Thomond Bridge, traditionally said to be where the Treaty of Limerick was signed in 1691.

- Thomond Bridge: Photograph King John's Castle across the Shannon from the bridge in morning light.
- The Treaty Stone: Frame the stone with the castle behind it at dusk, when the riverside is lit.
- Sarsfield Bridge and the Shannon quays: Evening gives the best reflections of the city and bridges on the river.
Limerick City through history
Limerick began as a Viking settlement on the Shannon in the 9th century and grew into one of Ireland's main ports.
King John's Castle was built on King's Island around 1200 on the orders of King John.
The Treaty of Limerick, signed in 1691, ended the Williamite War in Ireland; its broken terms gave the city its later nickname, the City of the Broken Treaty.
Frank McCourt's memoir Angela's Ashes, published in 1996, describes his childhood in Limerick's lanes in the 1930s and 1940s.

- King's Island, holding the castle, cathedral and the Treaty Stone, makes a compact self-guided walking loop.
- Book King John's Castle tickets ahead at weekends and in summer, as entry is by timed tour slots at busy times.
Golf near Limerick City
Adare Manor, host of the 2027 Ryder Cup (matches 17–19 September 2027), is about 30 minutes south-west of the city.
